This topic describes how to insert tags by selecting them from a drop-down list of tags available for the current segment. The list initially contains all tags that appear in the source segment; as you use them, tags are removed from the list. Opening and closing tags of tag pairs are listed separately; this means that as you are typing, you can insert the opening tag at the point where you want text formatting to begin and the closing tag at the point where you want the formatting to end.
Placeholder tags also appear in the list and are selected in the same way as formatting tags.
NOTE |
By default, SDL Trados Studio settings specify that recognized formatting tags are hidden, therefore tags remain hidden when inserted and instead the text is formatted in the style in the Editor window. |
To insert tags from a drop-down list:
When the cursor
is at the point where you want to insert a tag in the Editor
window, press Ctrl+,(comma). A drop-down list of tags
is displayed below the target segment.
![]()
NOTE |
If you are applying formatting tags, for example bold, they appear as sample text that is formatted in the drop-down list.
|
The first tag is selected automatically. In the source segment, the text formatted by the tag is highlighted.
If this is the required tag, press Enter or Tab to insert the tag into the target segment. If the tag is one of a pair, a ghost tag is also inserted.
If this is not the tag you want to insert, select different tags until the correct one is selected and then insert the tag into the target segment.
Continue typing. The selected tag formatting is applied to the text.
When you want
the formatting to stop being applied, press Ctrl+,(comma) to insert the closing tag
of the pair. Alternatively, press Ctrl+,(comma) to display the closing tag
for selection.
