QuarkXPress Export > Settings

Use the QuarkXPress Export > Settings page to specify settings that SDL Trados Studio uses when it processes a QuarkXPress export file. Selecting these settings converts the placeholder tags for the following items to display as they would in an original source document or how they would appear in the translated document at the end of the process. Therefore, this can reduce the number of irrelevant tags in the document when you are translating. It can also improve on your matches to the translation memory when you are working on a different file type that does not have the same character entity tags or features such as kerning.

Description

Remove soft returns

When this option is selected, soft returns are displayed as a space in the Editor view unless an adjacent character is a also a space. If one of the adjacent characters is a space, they should be removed.

When this option is not selected, soft returns are displayed as placeholder tags <\n> in the Editor view.

Remove optional hyphens

When this option is selected, optional hyphens are removed from the document and are not displayed in the Editor view.

When this option is not selected, optional hyphens are displayed as placeholder tags <\h> in the Editor view.

Convert character entity tags

When the option is selected, all character entity tags that represent a Unicode character are replaced by the actual character in the Editor view. The character entities below are supported by this filter. Some entities that are not supported are displayed as placeholder tags even if the option is selected.

When this option is not selected, the characters are displayed as the placeholder tags below:

<\[> thin space

<\{> hair space

<\z> zero width space

<\8> figure space

<\p> punctuation space

<\_> em dash

<\!-> non-breaking hyphen

<\!s> non-breaking space

<\m> em space

<\e> en space

<\j> word joiner

<\5> three-per-em space

<\$> four-per-em space

<\^> six-per-em space

Remove kerning and tracking tags

When this option is selected, kerning and tracking tags are removed from the document and are not displayed in the Editor view. However, kerning and tracking tags that are combined with other character formatting instructions are displayed as placeholder tags.

When this option is not selected, kerning <k...> and tracking <t…> tags are displayed as placeholder tags in the Editor view.

Convert hard returns to inline tags

When this option is selected, hard returns will be displayed as placeholder tags, <Line Break> linebreak.gif in the Editor view.

A placeholder tag is a non-translatable type of inline tag.

When this option is not selected, hard returns are converted to structure tags in the Editor view. These are not visible to the translator.

NOTE

The setting you select here can change how your document is segmented. By default, this option is not selected.
