Options Dialog Box > Editor > Auto-propagation

Select this to enable auto-propagation. When it is enabled, auto-propagation takes place automatically when you confirm a translation. At that point, SDL Trados Studio automatically checks the document for the presence of similar source segments and applies the translation to their target segments.

By default translations are auto-propagated to empty target segments and to segments that contain a translation which has not been confirmed.

Modify the selections below to specify when auto-propagation should occur and if you want to be asked to authorize auto-propagations.

This is the degree of match that must exist between the source segment that has a confirmed translation and another source segment in the document for the segment to be considered a matching segment where auto-propagation can occur.  The default is 100% (exact match).

If you want confirmed translations that have exact match to the original source segment to be overwritten by auto-propagated translations, select this option.

Under Prompt User, you can specify that you want to be asked to authorize auto-propagations to confirmed segments.

Select this if you want to automatically confirm auto-propagated segments. This changes the status of the segment to confirmed.

• Next segment in document - When this option is selected, auto-propagation starts at the segment after the segment that has just been confirmed. You may want to do this if you have already translated and confirmed segments in the first part of the document and therefore you only want to auto-propagate segments in the second part of the document.

• First segment in document - When this option is selected, auto-propagation always starts at the beginning of document.

When this option is selected, you will always be asked if you want the auto-propagated translation to be applied to a segment.

These options enable you to specify when you want to be asked to authorize the auto-propagation of a translation. Select one of the following options:

• Matching segment has been translated differently:  When this option is selected, SDL Trados Studio will automatically auto-propagate translations to matching segments except where the segment has already been translated by applying translation memory and the translation is different to the one being auto-propagated.

• Matching segment has no translation:  When this option is selected, SDL Trados Studio will automatically auto-propagate translations to matching segments except where the segment has no translation in the document.

• Matching segment confirmed:  When this option is selected, SDL Trados Studio will only ask you if you want to auto-propagate when the matching segment is translated and confirmed. This option is only available if you have also selected Auto-propagate to matching segments that are confirmed.
