How to Edit a Segmentation Rule

This topic describes how to edit a segmentation rule in a language resource template or translation memory or in the new translation memory you are creating.

  1. Display the Segmentation Rules dialog box:

If

Then

you are currently completing the New Translation Memory or New Server-based Translation Memory wizard and want to edit a segmentation rule for this translation memory,

on the Language Resources page of the wizard, select Segmentation Rules and click Edit.

you are currently completing the New Server-based Translation Memory wizard and have applied a language resource template and now want to edit a segmentation rule for this translation memory,

on the Language Resources page of the wizard, click Edit next to the Template box and then select Segmentation Rules and click Edit.

you want to edit a rule in a language resource template,

select the template in the navigation tree in the Translation Memories view and then select File > Settings from the menu bar. The Language Resource Template Settings dialog box is displayed.

Select Segmentation Rules and click Edit.

you want to edit a rule in a translation memory,

select the translation memory in the navigation tree in the Translation Memories view and then select File > Settings from the menu bar. The Translation Memory Settings dialog box is displayed.

Select Language Resources from dialog box navigation tree.

In the right-hand pane, select Segmentation Rules and click Edit.

  1. In the Segmentation Rules dialog box, select the rule to be edited and click Edit. The Edit Segmentation Rule dialog box is displayed.

  2. Make the required change to the values in the Before break, Break character and After break boxes.

If

Then

you want to create complex regular expression that also combine the before break and break character conditions,

click Advanced View and complete the boxes in this view.

  1. Add or edit exceptions to the rule.

If

Then

you want to add an exception,

click the Add button beside the Exceptions box. The Add Rule Exception dialog box is displayed.

Complete this dialog box and click OK.

The exception is added to the Exceptions box.

you want to edit an exception,

select the exception and click Edit. The Edit Rule Exception dialog box is displayed.

Make the changes and click OK.

you want to delete an exception,

select the exception and click Remove.

  1. Click OK to save the updated rule.

 

NOTE

If you have edited a rule in a language resource template, all server-based translation memories that are linked to the template (translation memories created using the template), will automatically be updated with the change.
