Translation Memories and Translation Memory Groups
A translation memory(“TM”) is a database of segments and their translations.
A translation memory group is a container that allows multiple translation memories to be combined in a prioritized manner and leveraged almost as if they were a single translation memory.
Choosing whether to apply single translation memories or translation memory groups to your translations can affect the quality of translations. For example, if you choose to apply a single translation memory that does not include all the segments or terms saved from previous translations, you could end up paying more for a translation. If you choose to apply a translation memory group to a translation, and the memories are ranked in such a way that some exact or ICE matches occur in lower-ranked memories and fuzzy matches for the same segments occur in higher-ranked translation memories, the existing translations might not be leveraged effectively and again you could end up paying more for translation.
Understanding how translation memories and translation memory groups work – as well as the content of your translation memories – is important to leveraging the power of WorldServer most effectively. For more information on translation memory, see the WorldServer Translation Memory Administration Guide, and, specifically, the chapter on translation memory groups.
