Preparing your Files for Conversion

If you are importing terminology data into an existing termbase, make sure that the entry structures are identical. You can convert files in any of the following data formats:

File Type Details
MultiTerm 5

Make sure that language support for all non-Western languages that are included in the MultiTerm database file is installed on operating system level. If not, SDL MultiTerm Convert will not convert these language fields correctly.

If your MultiTerm 5 file (MTW) contains graphics, these graphics must be located in the same folder as the *.mtw database file as the path specified in the MultiTerm 5 termbase setup will not be used.

Graphics in the following formats can be processed:

  • BMP

  • GIF

  • JPG

  • PNG

  • WMF

If you have graphics in other formats that were supported by SDL MultiTerm 5, you should convert them to one of these formats.

SDL termbase files Make sure that language support for all non-Western languages that are included in the MultiTerm database file is installed on operating system level. If not, SDL MultiTerm Convert will not convert these language fields correctly.
Microsoft Excel

If you plan to import the terminology data into an existing termbase rather than creating a new termbase, make sure that the header field of each column has the same label as the corresponding field in the SDL MultiTerm termbase.

Spreadsheet or Database Before you can convert your TXT or CSV file, the first row or line in the file must contain the information from the header field of each column and it must be in UTF-8 format.
To save your file to UTF-8 format, open the file in a Unicode-enabled text editor and save it in UTF-8 text format, for example Microsoft Notepad.
OLIF XML or TBX SDL MultiTerm Convert will handle the files in their native format.
