About Access to Server Termbase Objects

Termbase objects can be held on an SDL MultiTerm component or on an SDL MultiTerm server. Termbase objects held on a server are called server-based. Access rights only affect server-based objects.

Server-based Objects

When changing access to server termbase objects, be aware of the Access Requirements for Users and the Access Guidelines for MultiTerm Components.

An administrator with access to a server-based termbase has unrestricted access to the server termbase objects.

Access Levels

The access level affects which user accounts can access the object. You specify the access level of a server-based termbase object by creating it at one of the three access levels:

The access level of a termbase object cannot be changed after creating the termbase object.

Also, for Role access level objects and for User access level objects, you cannot change the role or the user that is allowed to access the server termbase object. However, you can Duplicate a Termbase Object and specify that the duplicate is created at another access level.

Access to Import and Export Definitions

Access to import and export definitions require more rights than access to other server termbase objects.

To use an import or an export definition, a user must belong to a role that has import or export rights. In addition, the user needs access rights to the import/export definition termbase object.

Roles and Access Rights to Server Termbase Objects

Access rights to server-based termbase objects depend on the access level of the object:

You specify the access level for a termbase object when you create the termbase object in SDL MultiTerm Administrator.

Minimum Access to Termbase Objects

To access termbase data, in addition to the appropriate access to the termbase entries, the user of a MultiTerm component also needs minimum access rights to some termbase objects. These additional access rights are as follows:

Layout Access to View Entries

To view termbase entries, a user of a MultiTerm component needs access to at least one Layout. All the users assigned to a termbase have access to the default layouts in the Public Objects branch of the termbase tree. If you delete the default layouts, make sure that you provide access to a layout that allows the users to view termbase data.

Input Model Access to Edit Entries

To edit termbase data, a user might need access to an Input Model:

Search by keyword for related topics

general rights to a termbase

access rights to termbase entries

access requirements for client components

saving an administrator termbase object

deleting an administrator termbase object
