Concordance Search

Concordance Search enables you to search a translation memory for matches for a word or a piece of text rather than an entire segment. For example if you search for the word 'print' the search will find all segments containing the word print. The search may also find 'printed', 'printer' and 'printing' depending on the Minimum Match Value you specify.

Translation memory segments that contain the search text are displayed in the Concordance Results window along with the segment translation. If you want to use a search result, simply copy and paste the required text from the Concordance Results window into the current document.

Description

Search for

Enter the text you want to search for. You should specify at least 4 characters.

You can type the text or you can select some text from a segment in the current task and copy and paste it into this box. To copy the text, select it, right mouse-click and select Copy from the shortcut menu (or press CTRL + C). To paste the text into this box, click inside the box, right mouse-click and select Paste from the shortcut menu (or press CTRL + V).

Translation Memory

Select the translation memory you want to search.

Language Pair

You can search the source language segments in the translation memory and you may also be able to search the target language segments.

Select the language pair that has the language you want to search in the first position.

For example, if you want to search the English US entries in an ENUS > DE translation memory you would select the ENUS > DE language pair and not DE > ENUS.

Minimum Match Value%

Specify a match figure in the range 1 - 100%. The higher the value you specify, the closer the match must be in order for the text in the translation memory segment to be considered a match for the search text.

When deciding the degree of match SDL TMS takes into account the order of the words in the translation memory segment and also whether other words appear in between the words in the search text. A segment where the words appear in the same order as in the search text and without any intervening words would have the highest match figure.

Maximum Number of Hits

This is the maximum number of results which can be displayed in the Concordance Results window. For example, if you want the window to display a maximum of 10 results, enter 10.
