Auto-substitution > Dates and Times

The Dates and Times settings determine the format of date and time patterns to be used when auto-localizing dates and times. Auto-localization is the process by which SDL Trados Studio automatically adapts the format of date and time elements to suit the target language of your current translation. These settings are only available on the language pair level, since the date and time patterns are target language-specific.

Click here for more information about auto-localization.

These settings appear in multiple dialog boxes in SDL Trados Studio. Click here for more information about finding the appropriate dialog box.

NOTE

  • If the recognition settings in your selected translation memory are not enabled to recognize these items, auto-localization does not occur and these items are treated as normal, translatable words.  See Translation Memory Settings.

  • Dates and times are auto-localized when you insert a date or time from the source segment to the target segment during translation. If you want auto-localization to occur during pre-translation or when applying matches from the translation memory, you must also enable auto-substitution on the Auto-Substitution page.
