Description

Default Languages

Source Language

The language you select here is automatically chosen as the default document source language for all future translations. For example, if you generally translate from German (Germany), you would select German (Germany).

You can remove the default source language for each individual translation when you are creating new projects. However, you cannot change the source language for existing projects.

NOTE

If Studio detects that a document contains different source language to the one you have selected here, the language in the document will be used.

Target Language

Optionally, select a default target language. If you select a language here, the language is automatically chosen as the document target language when you create new translations. For example, if you generally translate into French (France), you would select French (France).

If you need to, you can change the default target language selection when you are creating new translations.

NOTE

If SDL Trados Studio detects that a document contains a different target language to the one you have selected here, the language in the document will be used. This will only happen with bilingual files. For example, SDL Trados Studio SDLXLIFF files SDLX ITD files and SDL Trados TTX files.

Prompt for document languages if they cannot be detected automatically

Select this if you want to be asked to make source and target language selections whenever you are creating a new translation.

NOTE

You are only asked to provide the information if Studio cannot detect the languages automatically.
