How to Edit a Translation Unit

This topic describes how to edit the source and target segment text in a translation unit in the Translation Memories view.

NOTE

If you want to make a change that will affect many translation units throughout the translation memory, use the batch edit and delete tools.

To edit a segment:

  1. In the Translation Memories view, make the translation memory for which you want to edit a translation unit the active translation memory.

  2. In the TM side-by-side editor window click inside the source or target segment and start typing. This edit_tu_icon.jpg icon appears in the Translation Unit Status column to indicate that the translation unit has been edited. To make the change permanent, you have to commit the change. You can do this immediately or wait until there are a number of changes to be committed.

  3. Continue editing segments. Use the navigation buttons on the Maintenance toolbar to move through the translation memory pages.

  4. When you have finished making changes, commit the changes using one of the following methods:

  5. Select Maintenance > Commit Changes from the menu bar.

  6. Click Commit Changes CommitChanges.jpg on the Maintenance toolbar.

NOTE

You cannot revert the translation unit back to its original state once the edit has been committed.

To remove the Edited edit_tu_icon.jpg status from a translation unit and abandon the changes:

  1. Select the edited segment.

  2. Select Maintenance > Discard TU Changes from the menu bar.
