QA Checker > Segments Verification

Use the QA Checker 3.0 > Segments Verification settings to specify which checks are run as part of the QA Checker verification.

These settings appear in multiple dialog boxes in SDL Trados Studio. Click here for more information about finding the appropriate dialog box.

Setting

Setting Description

Next to each check on the right-hand side is a drop-down list with three options:  Error, Warning and Note. Select for each check the severity you want to apply if that check finds errors.

Forgotten and empty translation

Check for forgotten and empty translations

Select this to check for missed or empty translations. This option is selected by default.

Compare source and target segments

Check for segments where:

Source and target are identical

Select this to check that the translated text in the target segment is not exactly the same as the text in the source segment. The target segment should contain a translation of the source segment text instead of identical text.

  • Ignore tags

If you select the option, segments will be regarded as being identical, even when the inline tags differ, for example:

This is a <b>test</b> will be considered the same as This is a test.

  • Ignore case

If you select the option, segments will be regarded as being identical, even when the capitalizations differ, for example:

Run a Concordance search will be considered the same as Run a concordance search.

Check for target segments which are

Select this to check for target segments that have text that is shorter or longer than a specified percentage. For example, if a target segment is 50% shorter than the source segment, this might mean that it is incomplete.

  • Shorter by

  • Longer by

Select one of these check boxes and then specify in the box to the right the percentage of Shorter by and Longer by.

Ignore segments with less than # words:

This option enables you to restrict the two preceding checks (Shorter by and Longer by) to segments of a minimum length. Enter a number here and any segments containing fewer words than this number are excluded from the checks. For example, you may want to ignore segments that contain only one word.

  • Based on words

  • Based on characters

You can do a Shorter by or Longer by check based on the percentage of words or characters.

Check target segments

Check for forbidden characters

Here you can specify characters that should not occur in the translation. For example, German spelling reforms may specify that certain characters should no longer be used.

Select the check box and type the characters into the empty box on the right. Do not put spaces in between the characters.
