KB #4461 |  Troubleshooting source editing (Edit Source) in SDL Trados Studio 2011

Symptoms

This article lists some basic scenarios and tips & tricks for working with the newly introduced Source Editing feature of SDL Trados Studio 2011 SP2.

Explanation
Resolution
  • You have enabled source editing in your project settings but the option Edit Source in the Editor is disabled.

    The document you are editing may not be a supported file type (at the time of writing only *.doc, *.docx, *.ppt and * .pptx are supported), or the document may have source editing disabled due to one of the source editing restrictions.


  • You have enabled source editing in the project settings but you cannot edit the source segment.

    To edit a source segment in the Editor you need to place your cursor in a source segment, right-click and select Edit Source or press [Alt]+[F2]. The segment is surrounded by an orange box to indicate that you can edit the segment:


  • The option to enable source editing in my project settings is disabled.

    This option has been disabled due to one of the source editing restrictions.


  • When opening a single-document using the Open Document command, the Edit Source option in the Editor is disabled.

    Source editing is not enabled by default. Therefore, if you open a single-document, you must first enable source editing in the project settings (main screen). Then to edit a source segment in the Editor you need to place your cursor in a source segment, right-click and select Edit Source or press [Alt]+[F2]. The segment is surrounded by a orange box to indicate that you can edit the segment.
