Text File Types

SDL Trados Studio divides text files into two broad classifications:

Settings

Use these settings to...

QuickInsert

Specify the items that are available on the applicable QuickInsert toolbar, displayed in Editor view.

Format (Simple Delimiter text only)

Specify the format of a Simple Delimited text file, for example specify the character or characters that separate values.

Structure Patterns (Regular Expression Delimited text only)

Specify regular expressions that define the translatable text in a text file.

Inline Patterns (Regular Expression Delimited text only)

Specify text patterns to provide inline tags.

Other Settings (Regular Expression Delimited text only)

Specify some additional properties of structure patterns.

Tag Verification

Specify the checks that SDL Trados Studio does on tags, for example, check if tags have been inserted, deleted, or moved.

The Provided Text File Types

The following text file types are included in SDL Trados Studio when it is shipped, and are displayed in the File Types tree list:

Comma Delimited Text (CSV)

.csv

Simple Delimited text file.

Uses commas as delimiters.

Tab Delimited Text

.txt

Simple Delimited text file

Uses tabs as delimiters.

Text

Regular Expression Delimited text file.

Uses one regular expression, which treats each line as a structure element.
