How to Add Files to an Existing Project

This topic describes how you can add files to a project by adding them individually or by adding a folder to the project. All files in the selected folder are added with the folder. Files are added to each project language individually.

 

To add files to an existing project:

  1. Click the Files button in the navigation pane. All of the files in the active project are displayed in the Files view.

  2. In the box at the top of the Files view navigation pane, select the source language. The source documents for the project are displayed on the right.

When you add new files for translation to a project, you must always add the files to the source language folder. If you add the files to the target language folders they will automatically be added as reference files which are read-only files that cannot be modified.

right-click a project file and select Add Files from the shortcut menu. The Add Files dialog box is displayed.

Navigate to the required files, select them and click Open. The selected files are added to the files list; they are given a status of Translatable.

you want to add a folder

in the navigation pane, select the folder to which you want the new folder to be added. You can select the top level project or an existing project folder.

Right-click a project file and select Add Folders from the shortcut menu. The Browse for Folder dialog box is displayed.

Navigate to the required folder, select the folder and click OK. The folder is added to the navigation pane. Sub-folders are also added automatically.

Select the new folder to display the files it contains. The files are automatically given a status of Translatable.

  1. Repeat step 3 for all remaining files and folders to be added.

  2. If any of the files you added are reference files, change their status from Translatable to Reference. To do this, right-click the file or files and select Change File Usage. The Change File Usage dialog box is displayed. Change the file usage to Reference and click OK. No further action is needed on reference files.

  3. Prepare the new files for translation. To do this select the files, right-click and select Batch Tasks > Custom from the shortcut menu. The Batch Processing wizard is displayed on the Batch Tasks page.

  4. In the Task Sequence drop-down list, select Prepare. A list of the processes that will be performed on the selected files is displayed in the Tasks box. The settings used to create the original project files will be applied to the new files.

  1. Click Finish to prepare the files for translation. The prepared SDLXLIFF files are added to all target language folders and are displayed in the list in the Files view when you select a target language from the navigation pane.
