Translation and Review Toolbar - Editor View

The following table describes the options on the Translation and Review toolbar in the Editor view. These options may vary, depending on whether you opened a document for review or translation. This list is sorted alphabetically.

Add a New Comment or a New Comment Version

Click this to display the Add Comment dialog box, where you can add comments for this segment.

completereview.jpg

Complete Review

Click this to approve (confirm) all translations that have not yet been reviewed.

Any translations that do not have a status of Translation Approved or Translation Rejected are classified as not being reviewed.

This option is only available if the document is open for review.

completesignoff.jpg

Complete Sign-off

Click this to approve (confirm) all translations that have not yet been reviewed.

Any translations that do not have a status of Signed Off or Sign-off Rejected are classified as not being reviewed.

This option is only available if the document is open for sign-off.

concordance.jpg

Concordance Search

Click this to search the translation memory for segments containing the text that you have selected in the active document. You can select either source or target language text. Search results are displayed in the Concordance Search window.

NOTE

By default only source language segments can be searched. However, you may be able to search the target language in some translation memories. Enabling concordance searching on the target language is a choice that is made when a translation memory is created.

Shortcut command: F3

confirm.jpg

Confirm (Translated)

Click this to confirm the translation of the current segment and move to the next unconfirmed segment in the active document.

This changes the segment status to translated and adds the translation to the translation memory.

NOTE

By default, when you confirm a segment, SDL Trados Studio updates the translation memory with the new translation. Enable or disable these automatic updates by changing a setting in the Options dialog box under Editor > Automation.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Enter

This option is available only if the document is open for translation.

Confirm (Translation Approved)

Click this to confirm that the translation has been reviewed and approved.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Enter

This option is available only if the document is open for review.

Confirm (Signed Off)

Click this to confirm that the translation has been reviewed and approved.

This option is only available if the document is open for sign-off.

Edit_comment.jpg

Edit the Current Comment

Click this to display the Edit Comments dialog box.

Full Tag Text

Click this to display tags with full text, for example:

tag_-_full_text.jpg                                         

   

NOTE

By default, SDL Trados Studio settings specify that recognized formatting tags are hidden: tags are hidden, but the text is displayed in the formatting given by the tag.

go_to_next_comment.jpg

Go To Next Comment

Click this to go to the next segment for which a comment has been added.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+M

go_to_previous_comment.jpg

Go To Previous Comment

Click this to go to the previous segment for which a comment has been added.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+M

merge_segments.jpg

Merge the Selected Segments

Click this to merge the selected source language segments.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Alt+S

move_up.jpg

Move to Previous Segment

Click this to go to the previous unconfirmed segment.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Up Arrow

Move to Next Segment

Click this to move the cursor to the next unconfirmed segment.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Down Arrow

No Tag Text

Click this to display tags without any descriptive text, for example, tag_-_no_text.jpg.

By default, SDL Trados Studio settings specify that recognized formatting tags are hidden, so even if you change the display mode the tags will remain hidden.

Partial Tag Text

Click this to display tags with partial text, for example, tag_-_partial_text.jpg.

Project Settings

Click this to display Project Settings dialog, where you can view and edit the settings for the active document. You can specify which translation memories, automated translation server, termbases and AutoSuggest dictionaries are used during translation of the active document.

Reject (Rejected Translation)

Click this if the translation has been rejected.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+Enter

This option is only available if the document is open for review.

Reject (Rejected Translation)

Click this if the translation has been rejected.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+Enter

This option is only available if the document is open for sign-off.

showwhitespace.gif

Show whitespace characters

Click this to toggle the display of whitespace characters. When whitespace characters are displayed, they appear as symbols in the document text.

split_segment.jpg

Split the Selected Segment

Place the cursor in the source segment at the point where you want the split to occur and then click this to split the segment.

Shortcut command: Alt+Shift+S

tagid.jpg

Tag ID

Click this to display tags with tag IDs only, for example, tag_-_ID.jpg. Tag IDs are unique identifiers which are automatically assigned to every tag in the source document when it is being prepared for translation. This option also displays (at the top of Editor window) the name of the filter that was used when opening this document

Toggles Display of Formatting Tags

Click this to toggle the display of formatting tags on and off.

  • hide_formatting.jpg  When this option is selected, text is formatted correctly but standard formatting tags (for example, bold, italics and font type) are not displayed.
    This is the default setting.

  • showformattingtags.jpg  When this option is selected, formatting is applied to segment text and the formatting tags themselves are displayed. For example, text that is tagged as bold is displayed in bold and the bold formatting tag pair is also displayed.
