Starter and Express Editions

Overview: Working with the Starter and Express Editions

Starter and Express are special editions of SDL Trados Studio. There are several different workflows you can follow when using these editions:

  • Project Package Translation - Starter and Express allow you to open and work with project packages. In Starter, you can open packages created in other editions of SDL Trados Studio or an SDL enterprise product. In Express, you can only open packages created in an SDL enterprise product (WorldServer, TeamWorks and TMS). These packages contain files that need translating or reviewing. This enables you to participate in a project workflow where other team members are using full editions of SDL Trados Studio or an SDL enterprise product.

  • Single-File Translation - Starter can also be a single-user tool where you can open a single file for translation, the translation memories are located on your computer and there is no interaction with translation memories or projects over an intranet or the Internet.

NOTE

If you want to use the additional features available in SDL Trados Studio, such as creating projects or performing pre-translation, contact your SDL representative about purchasing a freelance or professional version of SDL Trados Studio.

Starter Languages

Starter allows you to select 5 languages. Once this selection has been made, it cannot be changed at a later date. To use a different selection of languages, you would need to uninstall and re-install Starter.

NOTE

All regional variants of the same base language will be enabled. Therefore, if English is selected, there is no need to then specify any further regional variants of English (for example, English - United States) as these will already be enabled.
