Overview: Project Package Translation in SDL Trados Studio Starter

SDL Trados Studio Starter allows you to work with users using the full versions of SDL Trados Studio by enabling you to open project packages. Project packages contain the project files and all of the resources you need to translate or review files. When you open a project package, a project is automatically created from the package. You can then review or translate the files and create return packages to send back your completed work.

See About Packages in SDL Trados Studio Starter for more detailed descriptions of project packages and return packages.

See Example: Project Package Translation Workflow for more details on the workflow that you can follow when working with packages.

Open for Translation

You can use the Open for Translation command in the Files view to open a file from a package for translation:

  1. Open the project package in which the file for translation was sent. A project is automatically created when you open the package.

  2. Display the Files view.

  3. Right-click on any file name and select Open for Translation from the shortcut menu.

When a document is opened for translation, the Translation configuration is used. This means that the layout of the windows is designed to facilitate tasks you need to perform while translating. The Translation Results window is automatically displayed at the top of the application with the first match found in the document. The options available on the Translation and Review toolbar and Translation menu change so that you can select Confirm (Translated) to indicate that the translation is complete.

Open for Review

You can use the Open for Review command in the Files view to open a file from a package for review:

  1. Open the project package in which the file for review was sent. A project is automatically created when you open the package.

  2. Display the Files view.

  3. Right-click on any file name and select Open for Review from the shortcut menu.

When a document is opened for review, the Review configuration is used. This means that the layout of the windows is designed to facilitate tasks you need to perform while reviewing. The Comments window is automatically displayed at the bottom of the application to allow you to enter review comments for the translations. The options available on the Translation and Review toolbar and Translation menu change so that you can select Translation Approved or Translation Rejected.

Translation Memories and Termbases

When you open a project package it can contain file-based translation memories and termbases, and references to server-based translation memories and termbases. When the file is opened for translation or review, they are automatically applied to the document. If you do not want to use the translation memories and termbases included in the package, you can disable them in the Project Settings dialog box.

NOTE

You cannot create or add translation memories or termbases to projects created through opening a project package. However, there is no size limit on translation memories in project packages.
