Starter Edition

Overview: Single-File Translation in the Starter

In the Starter edition, you can open a single file for translation. All file formats supported in SDL Trados Studio are also supported in the Starter version. You can also apply a translation memory and termbase during translation. Once translation is complete, you can verify the translation and then generate the target translated document.

Translate Single Document Command

You can use the Translate Document command available in any view to open a document for translation. Alternatively, drag-and-drop the document from your computer into the Editor View Navigation Pane or into the Editor Window.

A project is automatically created for you and settings specified in the Options dialog box are applied.

After the document is open, use the Project Settings dialog box to change the translation memory or termbase selections and to specify other settings.

Translation Memories

When you open a document, you can create a file-based translation memory or add an existing file-based translation memory. You can only work with one file-based translation memory at a time when performing a single-file translation and the size of the translation memory is limited depending on what license you purchased.

NOTE

You can also create translation memories prior to opening your document by clicking File > New > New Translation Memory.

Termbases

When you open a document you can select existing SDL MultiTerm termbases to use during translation. Termbases can be file and server-based. There is no limit on the quantity of termbases you can select.
