How to Open a Single File for Translation

Use the Translate Single Document command to open a single file for translation in Starter.

See Example: How to Open a Single File for Translation in Starter for an example of this procedure.

NOTE

The options that you define in the Translate Single Document dialog box when you first open a document for that language pair become the default options for this language pair. The settings are displayed in the Options dialog box and are used next time you open a document.

  1. Click File > Open > Translate Single Document. The Open Document dialog box is displayed.

  2. Select the document to be translated and click Open.

  1. In the Open Document dialog box, select the Source Language and Target Language from the drop-down lists.

  2. If you want to use a translation memory during translation, select the translation memory to use in the Translation Memory and Automated Translation section. In Starter, you can only use one translation memory at a time, the translation memory can only be file-based and the size of the translation memory is limited based on the type of license you purchased.

NOTE

Click Settings if you want to modify the settings of the translation memory. Click Import and Export to import data to or export data from the translation memory.

  1. If you want to use a termbase during translation:

  1. If you want to specify additional settings for translation, make the required changes and click OK to close the dialog box and return to the Open Document dialog box,

  2. Click OK. The translatable content of the source language document is identified, segmented and placed in an *.sdlxliff file. The file is opened in the Editor window for translating.

A project is automatically created for you. Use the Project Settings dialog box to change the translation memory and termbase selections and to specify other settings.
