Importing a TRADOS MultiTerm Terminology Database
Before you can import a TRADOS MultiTerm terminology database into WorldServer, you need to prepare the MultiTerm database for export out of TRADOS and then export the TRADOS termbase to a file for WorldServer to import.
To prepare and export a TRADOS MultiTerm database from TRADOS
Following are the steps for preparing and exporting a TRADOS MultiTerm database from TRADOS, so you can import it into WorldServer.
  1. Launch TRADOS MultiTerm.
  2. Open an existing term database by choosing File > Open Termbase .
  3. Select a file and click Open.
  4. If the application prompts you to open the terminology database in exclusive access mode, click Yes.
  5. Follow these steps to specify idiom.mdx, which is located in the WorldServer home directory (the ws directory), as you export the schema.
Note: The idiom.mdx file, provided with WorldServer, defines the MultiTerm schema that you load into TRADOS MultiTerm prior to export. This hard-coded file enables TRADOS to export the MultiTerm data in a format that can be read by WorldServer.
    1. Select File > Define Export .
    2. Click Load.
    3. Click Browse.
Note: TRADOS asks you to "Enter a name for the definition...or click Browse to load/save external files." You should select browse, rather than type in a name.
    4. Select idiom.mdx and then click Open.
    5. At this point you have loaded the export definition into TRADOS for the termbase. Click Close in the Export Definition dialog.
  6. Export the TRADOS MultiTerm database by selecting File > Export All Entries . (If only the current entry needs to be exported, select File > Export this entry.)
  7. Enter a name of your choice for the export and click Save. A progress dialog shows all entries being processed.
You now have a text file containing Multiterm terminology database information that you can import into WorldServer.
To import a MultiTerm file into WorldServer
  1. In WorldServer, go to Tools > Term Databases and click the terminology database into which you want to import entries.
Tip: If you want to add entries into a new terminology database, you must first set up the terminology database in Management > Linguistic Tool Setup > Term Database Setup .
  2. In the terminology database screen, click Import TD.
  3. Specify the file type MultiTerm WorldServer, then browse for the file to import and click Next.
Note: You can create a new attribute by selecting (create new) for an entry attribute. This brings up the new attribute editor — Import MultiTerm into Term Database <TD> (Step 3 of 3) — when you click Import. Configure the appropriate attribute types.
  4. Match both languages and attributes in the import files to WorldServer counterparts, or ignore them. Click Import.
WorldServer imports the Multiterm file. The results page displays the number of term entries imported as well as any errors that may have been encountered.
