Batch Processing > Pre-translate Files

Use the Batch Processing > Pre-translate Files settings to specify the settings control how the translation memories are applied to the project files when you run the Pre-translate batch task. This batch task is performed by default when you create a project.

These settings appear in multiple dialog boxes in SDL Trados Studio. Click here for more information about finding the appropriate dialog box.

Pre-translate Tasks Settings

Minimum match value

This is the degree of match that must exist between a source document segment and a segment in the translation memory, in order for the segment-translation in the translation memory to be applied to the document segment.

NOTE

You may want to set this at a higher figure than you would use when you are applying translation memory interactively during document translation. For example, you may want to pre-translate a file at a much higher value (for example, 100%) instead of the more usual figure of 75% used for interactive translation memory lookups.

Translation overwrite mode

These settings determine what happens when you apply translation memory to a segment that already has a translation:

  • Keep existing translation - the existing translation is retained. Any match found for the segment in the translation memory, is ignored.

  • Overwrite existing translation if better match found - the existing translation is only replaced if a better one is found in the translation memory.

  • Always overwrite existing translation -  the existing translation is always replaced with a translation taken from a translation memory.

After Applying Translations

Confirm 100% matches

When this option is selected, 100% translation memory matches are automatically confirmed.

Confirm context matches

When this option is selected, if the translation memory match found for the segment is a context match, the segment is automatically confirmed.

Lock context matches

When this option is selected, if the translation memory match found for the segment is a context match, the segment is automatically locked so that it cannot be edited during translation.

Copy source to target if no match found

When this option is selected, if there is no match found in the translation memory for the source segment text in the document, the source text is copied to the target segment.

When no match found

Specify what you want to happen to target segments when no match for the source segment is found in the translation memory. You can choose to:

Leave target segment empty

No text is placed in the target segment.

Copy source to target

The text from the source segment is copied to the target segment.

Apply automated translation

A translation from the automated translation server is placed in the target segment.
